The Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election recorded a 12.54% voter turnout by 9 am, with polling centres set to close in stages from noon.
KINABATANGAN: Voter turnout for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election stood at 12.54% as of 9 am today.
According to the Election Commission, this represents 6,056 voters from the total 48,282 registered electorate.
The Kuamut state constituency recorded the highest turnout at 14.61%, followed by Sukau at 11.93% and Lamag at 10.50%.
All 36 polling centres with 117 streams opened at 7.30 am for voters to cast their ballots.
Two centres will close at noon, with the remaining 34 closing in stages from 1 pm to 5.30 pm.
The EC is targeting an overall voter turnout exceeding 65% for the by-election.
Voting is proceeding under favourable weather conditions across the constituency.
Vote tallying will be conducted at Dewan Sri Lamag, with official results expected by 10 pm.
The by-election is a three-cornered contest involving Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar of Barisan Nasional, Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman of Warisan, and independent candidate Goldam Hamid.
It was triggered by the death of incumbent MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on December 5 last year.
