Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s one-day working visit includes opening a new hospital, a cultural carnival, and the Guar Kepah Archaeological Gallery.
GEORGE TOWN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is undertaking a one-day working visit to Penang and Kedah today.
His itinerary includes several official programmes, beginning with the opening of the new Seberang Jaya Hospital building in Perai.
The visit aims to enhance healthcare services for residents in Seberang Perai and surrounding areas.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, will then attend the official opening of the MADANI Cultural Carnival and Kenduri Rakyat Penang 2026 in Permatang Pauh.
He is scheduled to officiate the opening of Masjid Jamek Kubang Ulu in Kubang Semang.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister will open the Seberang Perai Aspire Centre and attend the Santuni Komuniti programme.
A key event is the official opening of the Guar Kepah Archaeological Gallery in Penaga.
The gallery is a Penang government initiative expected to complement the archaeological tourism map of northern Peninsular Malaysia.
It will house national heritage treasures, including the Guar Kepah Skeletal Collection.
The collection was brought back from the Netherlands on Aug 30 last year along with its original storage boxes.
The Bukit Cengkerang Kepah site has revealed evidence of a Neolithic community in Penang dating back 5,000 to 6,000 years.
Anwar will conclude his visit in Sungai Petani, Kedah, this evening.
He will attend the closing ceremony of the “Gema Pendekar MADANI” Northern Zone 2026 Gathering.
The event includes the Pendekar Utama Negara Dato’ Dr Raja Abdul Majid Cup open silat championship.
