NADI centres in Sabah are shaping youth development through skills training, entrepreneurship and democracy education, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker.
PUTATAN: The National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) can play a crucial role in shaping Sabah’s youth development, according to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul.
He stated that NADI has evolved beyond an internet access point into a conducive learning environment.
“NADI provides guidance, skill-building opportunities and career exploration for young people,” he told reporters after the Community Day Programme at NADI Kampung Kopimpinan.
Johari highlighted youth participation in NADI’s Smart Service programmes as evidence of its impact.
These include cyber security competitions, creative Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and entrepreneurship development.
“These success stories highlight the great potential of Sabah youth when provided with space, support and a suitable learning environment,” he said.
The Speaker expressed his desire for NADI to become a primary platform for democratic education.
He aims to train younger generations in understanding democracy and national decision-making processes.
Johari revealed that 131 NADI centres operate throughout Sabah as of September 2025.
These centres have an operating cost of approximately RM210 million over five years.
He cited several initiatives that could establish NADI as a leadership reference centre.
These include the Parliament School Programme, Youth Parliament and collaboration with Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia.
“I am confident NADI can nurture youth who are bold in voicing their opinions, think critically and are capable of representing society,” he added.
Johari emphasised that youth development must balance technological mastery with personal values.
He stressed the importance of digital ethics and citizen responsibility in youth formation. – Bernama
