Sabah cabinet inclusion aims for political stability, says Masidi

Deputy Chief Minister Masidi Manjun defends the inclusion of a Barisan Nasional assemblyman in Sabah’s new cabinet, stating it was necessary to ensure political stability for the state’s development.

KOTA KINABALU: The inclusion of a Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman in Sabah’s new cabinet was made to maintain political stability, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) secretary-general acknowledged criticism of the decision but stressed a stable administration was crucial for development.

“Sometimes we have to swallow our pride to see the bigger picture, and to me, the bigger picture is a stable Sabah,” Masidi said on Wednesday.

He argued it would be wasteful to hold frequent elections over political strength while neglecting Sabah’s real problems.

On Monday, Sabah UMNO secretary Datuk Jafry Ariffin, who retained the Sukau seat, was appointed to the new state cabinet.

Masidi emphasised cooperation, saying parties must sometimes set aside differences for the state’s welfare.

The government’s primary objective is to drive development and safeguard the people’s well-being, he added.

He noted the 11-member cabinet, including the chief minister, would not please everyone given the state’s many capable individuals.

Every assemblyman has a distinct role, and any position should be seen as an opportunity to serve with dedication, Masidi explained.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor reminded the cabinet to work hard and ensure each ministry performs at the highest level, he said.
