Raja of Perlis calls for enhanced cooperation between state and federal governments to secure development aid, stressing unity and prioritising people over party.
ARAU: The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, has called for stronger relations between the state and federal governments to ensure continued development assistance.
He said state executive council members should meet relevant federal ministers to convey Perlis’s needs for efficient administration.
“If we isolate ourselves, it will be difficult for us; Perlis is small… otherwise they (the Federal Government) will not know what we need,” His Royal Highness said at the swearing-in ceremony for state executive council members at Istana Arau.
He emphasised the need for humility in seeking federal support for the state’s development and its people.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also advised all elected representatives to prioritise the people and state above their political party interests.
“Honourable representatives, take care of the people. The people, regardless of party affiliation, need assistance,” he stated.
He urged them to be fair and carry out their duties effectively ahead of the next general election.
Four Perlis assemblymen from Bersatu were sworn in as new executive council members at the ceremony.
The new Menteri Besar, Abu Bakar Hamzah, was sworn in on December 28 following his predecessor’s resignation due to health reasons.
