Mohamad Hasan says internal conflicts cost Umno winnable seats, urges members to prioritise party unity
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has already suffered setbacks, so there is no reason for its members to continue fighting among themselves, said Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
He said the party’s war room had identified many seats that could have been won in elections but were instead lost due to internal conflicts.
“We in the war room know that there are many seats we could have won, but we lost them because we were fighting among ourselves,” he said in his winding up speech at 2025 Umno Annual General Assembly at the World Trade Centre (WTC) today.
Mohamad, popularly known as Tok Mat, stressed that disputes should not happen because it is the party that contests elections, and it is the party that bears the consequences of both victory and defeat.
“When the party wins, it forms the government. When it loses, the party cannot form the government. That is what should be firmly embedded in each of us,” he said.
He stressed that the party must always come first, as it is the party that carries the struggle.
“It is not about individuals, but about Umno. Umno must rise again. Umno must return to being the government after the next general election.”
Mohamad also called on party members to work together sincerely, close ranks and engage in proper discussions to avoid further losses.
“If we cooperate well, strengthen our ranks and negotiate properly, we will not lose.”
