KLIA Aerotrain service disrupted by power-supply system malfunction, the second such incident this month, with contractors under investigation.

PUTRAJAYA: A power-supply system failure caused the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Aerotrain service disruption early this morning.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd confirmed the malfunction in a statement today.

This marks the second similar incident this month, with another power system failure causing Aerotrain downtime on October 15.

Both power system issues fall under the responsibility of contractors IJM-PESTEC Joint Venture.

MAHB stated that Alstom, the Aerotrain project lead, and IPJV are expected to provide detailed reports and clarification regarding both incidents.

“Malaysia Airports continues to work closely with the Ministry of Transport and the Land Public Transport Agency to ensure corrective actions are implemented without delay,” the company said.

Despite the disruption, MAHB assured that KLIA operations remained fully functional during this critical period.

The airport recorded 530,000 passenger movements and 3,400 flights for the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

“Proactive measures have been activated to mitigate any impact, including deploying dedicated resources and stationing the Aerotrain contractors on-site around the clock to facilitate seamless passenger movements,” MAHB noted.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke earlier said APAD had been instructed to open an investigation paper against MAHB following the Aerotrain service disruptions.

He said the move was taken after the Aerotrain service had been operating for several months and the Transport Ministry viewed seriously every incident of disruption that occurred. – Bernama
