The Department of Fisheries allocates RM1 million to upgrade Kampung Cempaka’s infrastructure and support local fishermen’s welfare and economy.
KUANTAN: The Department of Fisheries has allocated RM1 million under the Madani Village Adoption programme to upgrade infrastructure, welfare, and the economy for the fishing community in Kampung Cempaka.
Fisheries director-general Datuk Adnan Hussain said the funding demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring developmental benefits reach communities in need.
He stated that Kampung Cempaka was selected for its status as an active fishing community requiring strategic government support.
The DOF will undertake comprehensive upgrades to community amenities, including the fishermen’s hall, a new boat storage facility, and public toilets.
Other facilities slated for upgrades include the football pitch, while solar-powered public lighting and a solar energy system for the village surau will be installed.
“This programme also includes welfare assistance, with the Permata Camar orphanage complex receiving new mattresses, washing machines and a public address system,” Adnan said at the programme’s handover ceremony.
He added that 84 fishing nets have been distributed to 42 coastal fishermen to support their livelihoods sustainably.
The DOF is concurrently running a Boat Licence Amnesty Programme to ensure fishermen’s records are better managed.
Adnan said 41 coastal fishermen from Kuantan have now been granted special boat licences, enabling them to resume fishing legally.
The ceremony was officiated by State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Biotechnology, and Education Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Soffi Abd Razak.
