Sarawak’s AirBorneo Holdings has finalised its takeover of MASwings, assuming full control to boost regional connectivity and affordable fares.
KUCHING: The Sarawak state government has completed its acquisition of MASwings Sdn Bhd through its wholly owned entity, AirBorneo Holdings Sdn Bhd.
The acquisition, effective today, sees AirBorneo assume full legal and operational responsibility for the airline.
The sale and purchase agreement was signed between Malaysia Aviation Group and the Sarawak state government in February 2025.
AirBorneo stated that the MASwings branding will continue during the initial transition phase.
The company will progressively roll out its new brand identity in the coming period.
“AirBorneo appreciates the cooperation and understanding of passengers, partners and stakeholders during this transition period,” it said in a statement.
The acquisition supports the state government’s strategic objectives of strengthening regional air connectivity.
It also aims to ensure affordable fares for Sarawak and its people.
“It is a key step in supporting the state’s broader social and economic development agenda,” the statement added.
The move lays the foundation for the airline’s next phase of growth under the AirBorneo name.
The Sarawak state government thanked all employees, partners, and stakeholders for their support throughout the transaction.
