Sarawak’s multiracial harmony embodies Malaysia MADANI spirit with strong community bonds and neighbourhood cooperation, says deputy minister

Sarawak’s longstanding unity and harmonious coexistence among its multiracial and multireligious communities meaningfully embody the Malaysia MADANI spirit.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government II Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee stated that Sarawakians continue living as one united family despite their diverse backgrounds.

“The neighbourhood spirit among Sarawakians remains very strong where they help one another regardless of race or religion especially in ensuring neighbourhood safety.”

“This resembles a large community family gathering for gotong-royong activities cleaning drains and sharing simple kindnesses like coffee or tea on a neighbour’s porch.”

“This represents the Malaysia MADANI spirit long before it received its official name,” he declared during his speech at the Semarak Perpaduan Sempena Sambutan Jubli Emas 50 Tahun Rukun Tetangga programme.

Tiang who also serves as Pelawan assemblyman noted countless people sharing stories reflecting community bonds and mutual trust during Rukun Tetangga’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

“Your neighbour watches your house during your absence while you reciprocate when they’re away,” he illustrated.

“In Sarawak we collectively recognise ourselves as the prime golden example of national unity where different races coexist peacefully,” he affirmed.

He praised Rukun Tetangga leaders and members for their tireless contributions to strengthening national unity and harmony calling them community unsung heroes. – Bernama
