Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg receives Japan’s Order of the Rising Sun for strengthening Malaysia-Japan relations in energy and conservation.

TOKYO: The Embassy of Malaysia in Japan has congratulated Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on receiving Japan’s “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star.”

The Japanese Government presented the award during a ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

The honour recognises Abang Johari’s contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between Malaysia, particularly Sarawak, and Japan.

Under his leadership, Sarawak has enhanced cooperation with Japanese companies in economic and energy sectors.

This includes renewable energy collaboration involving hydrogen and ammonia.

Sarawak’s stable LNG supply also contributes to Japan’s energy transition and long-term energy security.

The Premier has significantly promoted forest conservation between both nations.

He has also supported academic collaboration and youth exchange programmes.

Following the conferment ceremony, Emperor Naruhito granted an imperial audience to Abang Johari.

The audience recognised the Premier’s contributions to bilateral relations.

Abang Johari is among three recipients honoured in the non-Japanese category.

The award acknowledges exceptional efforts in promoting goodwill between Japan and other nations. – Bernama
