Sarawak Premier credits state’s multicultural fusion for stable governance, development planning and hydrogen energy leadership amid global challenges.
KUCHING: Sarawak’s strong multicultural fusion forms the foundation of its stable governance and long-term development planning, according to State Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said this fusion bridges social, ethnic and religious backgrounds to create a unified Sarawak identity that enables cohesive progress without discord.
“You touch one, you touch all,” Abang Johari declared at the Sarawak Dayak National Union’s 37th Triennial Delegates Conference Welcoming Dinner.
This cohesion allows Sarawak to remain focused even as global challenges like climate change demand new approaches and innovation.
“We are now at the crossroads where Sarawak is going through a development path in line with what is happening all over the world,” he said.
Sarawak’s natural capital including sunlight, rainfall and forest cover provides resources needed to contribute meaningfully to global climate solutions.
The state’s transition into hydrogen development represents a strategic step, with abundant water supply providing advantages in clean energy production.
“That’s why we took part in the production of hydrogen from the water that we have… H2O,” Abang Johari explained.
Despite initial scepticism, Sarawak has emerged as among the region’s frontrunners in hydrogen development, earning international acknowledgement.
The people’s unity has strengthened Sarawak’s financial position and enabled talent development necessary for the state’s new economic direction.
“With this unity, Sarawak is strong financially, and once our children have knowledge, they can change the way we manage our economy,” he added. – Bernama
