Selangor to triple food reserves to three months for supply security

PKPS plans to increase Selangor’s food reserves from one to three months, launching a new agribusiness plan and expanding dairy production to bolster state food security.

KLANG: The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) will increase the state’s food reserves from one month to three months. This move aims to strengthen preparedness against potential global supply chain disruptions.

PKPS Group chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said the expansion will be implemented through the State Food Warehouse Programme this year. He cited the current global geopolitical situation, including tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, as a risk to oil, gas, and subsequently food supplies.

“We experienced a similar situation during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said at an iftar event. That experience highlighted the critical need for stronger food supply preparedness.

Mohamad Khairil also announced the launch of the Agribusiness Transformation Plan 2026–2030 (SEED2030). The plan is designed to strengthen Selangor’s food production sector comprehensively.

It targets a 65% increase in oil palm production, equivalent to an additional 735,000 tonnes. Chicken production is also projected to reach 20.1 million birds during the plan’s period.

PKPS will further develop a new dairy farm project in Bukit Tagar, Hulu Selangor. This project is expected to begin in the second quarter of this year with a daily production capacity of about 32,850 litres of milk.

Price intervention programmes and the Rahmah Sales initiative will continue to help Selangor residents. These efforts ensure access to food items at more affordable prices.

Mohamad Khairil added that PKPS’s Ehsan brand products have expanded into several international markets. These include Makkah, Madinah, Bosnia, Manchester, Paris, Australia, Yemen and Oman.
