Sungai Kenau flood mitigation project ahead of schedule for 2026 completion

The Sungai Kenau flood mitigation project in Sungai Lembing is 16.84% complete and on track to be ready by November 2026, says Pahang MB.

KUANTAN: The Sungai Kenau Flood Mitigation project in Sungai Lembing is expected to be completed on November 27, 2026.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the project is currently ahead of schedule.

It has achieved 16.84% progress against a scheduled 16.33%, putting it four days ahead of plan.

“The design study and related works for the project began on Nov 28, 2023,” he told the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang.

He was replying to a question from Mohamad Ayub Mat Ashri (PN-Sungai Lembing) regarding the project’s status.

Wan Rosdy detailed that river deepening, dredging and pumping works have been carried out.

This work aims to ensure smooth water flow and reduce flood risk.

“The objective is for the water to flow swiftly and prevent any floods from occurring,” he stated.

River maintenance work and inspections of the river banks have also been conducted.

He provided this information in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Johari Hussain (BN-Tioman).

Dr Mohd Johari had asked about short-term measures before the project’s full completion. – Bernama
