New feature lets My50 users monitor trips and spending, with govt subsidy bringing pass value to RM150/month
KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd today launched an exclusive Savings Tracker feature for its My50 pass users through the Touch ‘n Go eWallet application.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the initiative is part of efforts to make public transport payments more convenient and encourage greater usage of digital options.
“Over 50% of My50 subscribers are now using digital payment options, either through cash or money wallet.
“This development is very encouraging and something we are proud of,” Loke said during the launch.
He added the Savings Tracker allows users to monitor their monthly journeys and spending, and notifies them when their total trips approach or exceed RM50, ensuring they get full value from their My50 subscription.
“We want users to be smart with our services so they get the most out of what they pay for.
“If a user’s trips do not reach RM50, the system will send a notification on how long they need to travel to break even,” he explained.
Loke also highlighted the subsidy involved in the program, noting that while users pay RM50 per month, the government tops up an additional RM100, bringing the actual cost of the pass to RM150 per month.
“Last year, we spent nearly RM300 million to fund this initiative. The subsidy is substantial, and it is important that users understand the value of the service and the government’s contribution,” he said.
The minister also praised Prasarana and Touch ‘n Go for the partnership, noting that the feature enhances user convenience by allowing them to renew their passes anytime through the app, without queuing at counters.
“Users can now track their trips and savings for up to 30 days, and monitor how much they save by using public transport.
“This is a great way to encourage people to adopt public transport as their main mode of travel,” Loke added.
