Terengganu JPJ acts against over 2,600 vehicles in special overload ops

JPJ Terengganu issued over 9,000 notices and summonses, seized 29 vehicles, and saw a drop in fatal crashes during 2025 special operations.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) in Terengganu took action against 2,682 vehicles during a special overload operation from September to December 2025.

Director Mohd Zamri Samion said inspections were conducted on 22,754 public service and goods vehicles during ‘Ops Khas Perang Lebih Muatan 2025’.

A total of 4,447 notices and 4,595 summonses were issued for offences including expired road tax, lapsed insurance, overloading, and technical violations.

Twenty-nine vehicles were seized during the operation, which was launched following serious crashes involving commercial vehicles.

“Enforcement is not aimed at punishment alone, but to prevent crashes, protect the lives of road users and ensure that commercial vehicles are in roadworthy condition,” he said.

Mohd Zamri said the department’s risk-focused enforcement strategy had yielded positive results in reducing fatalities.

Fatal crash cases during the 2025 Hari Raya Aidilfitri special operation dropped to seven from 24 recorded during the same period in 2024.

Total crash cases also fell to 840 during Ops HRA 2025, compared to 968 the previous year.

For the Hari Raya Aidiladha operation in 2025, fatal cases decreased to three from 17 in 2024.

“This reduction is not a coincidence, but the result of a strategic approach towards risk-focused enforcement,” he added.

Separately, JPJ Terengganu collected RM2.54 million in outstanding summonses from November 1 to December 31 last year.

The collection involved 19,768 transactions under a nationwide 50% summons discount programme.

Mohd Zamri said the offer aimed to provide the public an opportunity to settle fines while improving legal compliance. – Bernama
