Malaysia and South Africa agree to expand cooperation in trade, semiconductors, halal agriculture, defence and education research.
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and South Africa have agreed to strengthen their cooperation in trade, education, defence, scientific research and new areas such as semiconductors and halal agriculture.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced this agreement following a bilateral meeting with South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa at Kompleks Seri Perdana.
Anwar stated that both countries need to enhance Malaysia’s strategy to expand new trading partners while maintaining existing conventional arrangements.

He confirmed Malaysia’s commitment through BRICS to expand trade with Africa and Latin America while focusing on intra-ASEAN trade and strengthening economic ties in Asia.
The Prime Minister emphasised South Africa’s special position in Africa with significant influence and economic strength in defence, agriculture and related industries.
He assured continued collaboration in new areas beyond palm oil, including semiconductors, halal, agriculture and defence sectors.

Both countries will expand cooperation to education and research involving universities and scientific institutions.
Ministers and administrators from both sides will follow through on implementing these collaborative initiatives. – Bernama
