Melaka gets six health facility projects under RP1 OF 13MP – Exco

MELAKA: Melaka has been allocated six health facility projects under the First Rolling Plan (RP1) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), said State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem.

He said that the first project involves the construction of a Type 3 Health Clinic in Cheng, costing RM43.567 million, to replace the existing clinic, which is no longer able to cope with the patient load of up to 1,000 people per day.

“Among the key components of this project are expanded Family Medicine services, including outpatient services, a 24-hour emergency (A&E), maternal and child health (MCH), dental services, laboratory, pharmacy and X-ray facilities.

“Once the new clinic becomes operational, the existing building will be converted into a rehabilitation unit, senior citizens clinic and One Stop Centre For Addiction (OSCA),” he said when met by reporters on the sidelines of the Melaka State Assembly sitting, here, today.

He said that an allocation of RM500,000 had also been approved to carry out preliminary works for the proposed additional block at Jasin Hospital. These works include land investigations, preparation of the environmental impact assessment (EIA), design preparation, project briefing, and on-site utility mapping.

“The additional block for Jasin Hospital has been proposed, at a cost of RM305 million, under RP1 of the 13MP. The project scope includes a new block housing male and female surgical wards, male and female rehabilitation wards, an intensive care unit (ICU), operating theatres, radiology services, a medical records unit, and specialist clinics,” he said.

“Preliminary works must be carried out to prevent delays once the projects are approved, especially for hospital developments such as additional blocks or new facilities, which typically involve a high degree of complexity,” he said.

He added that, among the other health-related projects, is the preliminary works for the Melaka Tengah Integrated Health Complex, involving an allocation of RM500,000. The proposed complex has been submitted at an estimated cost of RM45 million.

“In addition, the haemodialysis facility upgrade at Melaka Hospital has been approved, with an allocation of RM230,000. Approval was also granted for the procurement of vehicles and equipment for three mobile dental teams – serving the Ujong Pasir, Durian Tunggal and Selandar dental clinics – at a total cost of RM1.35 million,” he said.

“The final project involves the procurement of an X-Ray Blood Irradiator for the Transfusion Medicine Department at Melaka Hospital, costing RM2.5 million, to support and enhance the department’s operations,” he said.
