Paramotor operator survives 30-metre fall after hitting power cable in Melaka

A paramotor operator fell 30 metres into a padi field after striking a TNB cable during an event in Melaka, escaping with only minor injuries

MELAKA: A paramotor operator survived a 30-metre fall after his vehicle struck an electric cable during an event here yesterday.

The incident occurred at approximately 8.40 am in a padi field near KampungKu Sayang Bukit Baru.

Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the accident was believed to be caused by a technical problem with the paramotor.

The operator was participating in the Duyong International Cultural Run 2025 event based at Tun Fatimah Stadium.

Patit confirmed the operator sustained only minor facial injuries, while the paramotor itself suffered minor damage.

“No injuries to members of the public were reported,” he said in a statement today.

He explained that four paramotors from a Selangor club were involved in the event’s extreme sports segment.

“While operating, one of the paramotors experienced technical problems before falling from a height of 30 metres into the rice fields near the stadium,” Patit said.

A team from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) inspected the cable that was struck and found no damage.

A video of the accident, recorded by cultural run participants, went viral on social media yesterday.
