PM Anwar denies avoiding opposition questions in parliament

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim insists he answers all opposition questions in Dewan Rakyat, addressing concerns about repeated queries from MPs

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has firmly denied allegations that he avoids answering questions from opposition Members of Parliament.

Anwar stated that all questions directed at him during the Minister’s Question Time every Tuesday have been properly addressed.

He explained that responses are provided either by himself or through relevant ministers when appropriate.

The Prime Minister noted that some opposition MPs continue to raise the same questions despite receiving multiple explanations.

“I answer all the questions raised… if anyone claims I’m avoiding them, I’m not avoiding,” he declared during today’s Dewan Rakyat session.

Anwar emphasised his willingness to address any question posed to him in parliament.

Earlier, Perikatan Nasional’s Chief Whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan questioned why no opposition questions appeared on today’s question list.

The Kota Bharu MP raised this concern before the Minister’s Question Time session began.

Anwar’s response came during the regular Tuesday session reserved specifically for Prime Minister’s questions.

Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul later clarified that the selection of questions for the MQT session is subject to his discretion.

He also revealed that for today’s MQT list, the opposition had only submitted one question, while the government bloc submitted eight. Moreover, the opposition’s question was a repeat

“I have reviewed all the questions, and I found that the opposition’s questions had already been answered. There is no issue of bias between the government and the opposition,” he said.

Johari further added that the opposition’s questions would be discussed in detail by the relevant Select Committee (JKPK), which will be attended by ministers and senior government officials tomorrow.– Bernama
