Selangor police are waiting for MCMC data to identify an individual who posted online threats against a lawyer involved in a Melaka shooting case
SHAH ALAM: Police are awaiting a report from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify an individual who allegedly posted threats against a lawyer online.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the threats are linked to a lawyer representing three men involved in a recent shooting incident in Melaka.
He confirmed that statements from the lawyer and several other individuals have been recorded to assist the investigation.
The lawyer lodged a police report on December 5 after reading a threatening comment on a Facebook post.
“We have requested assistance from MCMC to obtain the profile of the individual who posted the threatening comment and are still awaiting feedback,” Shazeli said.
The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat previously stated the report was made after the lawyer saw the comment at his office.
The threat is believed to be connected to a case the lawyer is handling.
On November 24, Melaka police shot dead three suspects known as the ‘Geng DT’ after they attacked an officer with machetes.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the main suspect had 39 previous criminal and drug records.
Another suspect had 12 criminal and drug records.
The group was believed to be involved in armed robberies in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.
Estimated losses from their activities total RM1.35 million. – Bernama
