Police announce road and market closures in Kinabatangan for nomination and voting days of the parliamentary and state by-elections.
KINABATANGAN: Police will temporarily close several roads and markets to ensure smooth traffic during the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-election nomination and voting days.
Kinabatangan district police chief Supt Ravi Duraisamy said the closures include Jalan Dato Pengiran Galpam, from in front of the Syariah Court to Simpang 3 towards Jalan Dato Malek Chua.
The road will be closed from 7 am on nomination day this Saturday.
On voting day, the same road will close from 5 pm until the vote counting is complete and a winner is announced.
The Election Commission set voting day for both by-elections on Jan 24.
Nomination day is Jan 10 and early voting is Jan 20.
Public markets, farmers’ markets and *pasar tamu* will close from 2 pm on Jan 9 to 8 am on Jan 11 for nomination day.
The same markets will close again from 2 pm on Jan 23 to 12 pm on Jan 25 for voting day.
“The public is advised to plan their journeys early on the day in question by using alternative routes to avoid any inconvenience,” Ravi said.
He urged the public to comply with all instructions to ensure the smooth running of the democratic process.
