Tun Musa Aman receives Instrument of Appointment as UMS chancellor from Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
KOTA KINABALU: Tun Musa Aman has officially been appointed as the fourth Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah during a ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu.
The Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah received his Instrument of Appointment from Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, acting on behalf of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim.
Tun Musa’s three-year term as Chancellor will commence on October 1, 2025, and conclude on December 31, 2028.
Minister Zambry read the Instrument of Proclamation stating that the Chancellor serves as the university’s head according to the UMS Constitution.
The Chancellor will also preside over university convocations when present at these ceremonies.
The appointment ceremony was attended by Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan, and Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor.
UMS described the appointment as significant for strengthening ties between state leadership and the academic community.
The university stated that this appointment enhances UMS’s reputation as an intellectual and innovation hub in East Malaysia.
Tun Musa’s leadership is expected to inspire university staff in their service to the community and nation.
The former Sabah chief minister brings extensive experience from previous roles including Finance Minister and UMS Pro-Chancellor.
His appointment marks a new chapter in university-state collaboration for educational advancement. – Bernama
