Two Bangladeshi men died after a lorry overturned in Rompin; driver had no licence, another passenger seriously injured.
ROMPIN: Two Bangladeshi men were killed when the lorry they were in overturned on Jalan Selancar-Redong near Kampung Perwira Jaya.
Rompin district police chief Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the 2.25 pm incident claimed the lives of Md Kader, 34, and Md Dalim, 30, at the scene.
Both victims were oil palm plantation workers.
Initial investigations found the lorry was transporting palm oil pesticide from Felda Redong to Felda Selancar with four Bangladeshi men on board.
The lorry, driven by a 45-year-old man, is believed to have lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle.
It skidded to the left side of the road before overturning.
A 41-year-old passenger suffered serious head injuries and is receiving treatment at Segamat Hospital in Johor.
The driver, who did not hold a valid driving licence, escaped unhurt.
Sharif Shai said police will take action against the lorry owner for allowing an unlicensed individual to drive the vehicle.
The bodies were sent to Muadzam Shah Hospital in Rompin for a post-mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
