Cambodia’s fuel prices surge again as West Asia conflict escalates

Cambodian fuel prices rise further as West Asia conflict pushes up global oil costs, with diesel seeing the sharpest weekly increase.

PHNOM PENH: Retail fuel prices in Cambodia have increased again, driven by the ongoing escalation of conflict in West Asia.

The Ministry of Commerce announced the new prices, which will take effect from Thursday until further notice.

A litre of regular gasoline will now cost 5,450 riels (USD 1.36). This represents a slight increase of 0.92% from last week’s price of 5,400 riels.

Diesel prices have seen a much sharper rise, increasing by 5.97% to 7,100 riels (USD 1.77) per litre. The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been set at 3,200 riels (USD 0.79) per litre.

The ministry provided data showing the cumulative impact of the conflict on local fuel costs. Since the onset of the West Asia conflict, the price of regular gasoline has risen by 41.5%.

Diesel prices have surged by 84% over the same period, while LPG has increased by 60%.

In response to the sustained pressure, the Cambodian government reduced import duties and taxes on gasoline and diesel products last week. This measure aims to mitigate the impact of rising international oil prices and ease the burden on consumers.

Cambodia remains entirely reliant on imported petroleum and diesel. The country’s own seabed oil reserves have not yet been exploited.
