Philippine police deploy intel units after Jordanian’s arrest

Philippine police mobilise elite intelligence units to investigate a Jordanian national linked to suspects in the deadly Bondi Beach shooting.

MANILA: The Philippine National Police has mobilised its elite intelligence units to dismantle possible terror cells. This follows the arrest of a Jordanian national linked to suspects in the deadly Bondi Beach shooting.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated the force is leaving no stone unturned in tracing terror group movements. He added that neutralising any potential threats quickly remains the top priority.

The PNP Intelligence Group is coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines to investigate Mohammad Saleh Odeh. The 65-year-old was arrested in Pagadian City on Monday for overstaying and conducting business without a visa.

Odeh reportedly obtained a Temporary Residence Visa in 2023 valid until March 2025. Investigators found he had links to individuals suspected in the December 14, 2025 attack near Bondi Beach.

In that attack, father and son Sajid and Naveed Akram opened fire during a Jewish Hanukkah celebration. The shooting killed 15 people.

Nartatez said they want to clarify Odeh’s actual connections with the suspects. The goal is to understand what activities he engaged in while in the Philippines.
