STOCKTON: Four people were killed and 10 wounded in a shooting at a family gathering in California on Saturday night.
San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office spokesperson Heather Brent described the incident as “targeted” during a news briefing.
The shooting occurred inside a banquet hall in Stockton just before 6:00 pm local time.
Brent confirmed the victims ranged from “juveniles to adults” and were transported to local hospitals.
“What we have confirmed at this time is that there was a banquet hall where a family was celebrating,” Brent told reporters.
She added that investigators were exploring all possibilities in the ongoing investigation.
The sheriff’s office urged anyone with information or video footage to contact them immediately.
No suspect has been identified in the shooting so far.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has been briefed on the incident, according to his office.
The Stockton shooting marks the 504th mass shooting in the United States this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
The archive defines a mass shooting as any incident where four or more people are shot.
