Harrison Ford to receive lifetime achievement award from actors union

Hollywood legend Harrison Ford will be honoured with the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award at the Actor Awards ceremony in March.

LOS ANGELES: Harrison Ford will receive a lifetime achievement award from Hollywood’s main actors union.

SAG-AFTRA announced on Thursday that Ford will be given its Life Achievement Award at the rebranded Actor Awards in March.

The award is presented annually to a performer who embodies the finest ideals of the acting profession.

SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin said Ford is a singular presence in American life.

“His career has been endlessly exciting, always returning to his love of acting,” Astin said.

Ford said he was deeply honoured to be chosen for the prestigious prize.

“To be acknowledged by my fellow actors means a great deal to me,” Ford stated.

The actor worked as a carpenter before his breakout role in George Lucas’s 1973 film “American Graffiti.”

His iconic characters include Indiana Jones and Han Solo from the “Star Wars” franchise.

Ford is also renowned for his role as Rick Deckard in the 1982 sci-fi classic “Blade Runner.”

He reprised that role 35 years later in the sequel “Blade Runner 2049.”

Television audiences have recently seen him in the Western drama “1923” and the comedy-drama “Shrinking.”

Previous recipients of the award include Robert De Niro, Jane Fonda and Morgan Freeman.

The 32nd Annual Actor Awards will be held on March 1 and streamed live on Netflix. – AFP
