Six people were lightly wounded in central Israel after Iran launched missiles, with air defences intercepting the threat and sirens sounding across the region.

JERUSALEM: Six people were lightly injured by blast effects following Iranian missile attacks on Israel.

The Israeli military confirmed its air defence systems had responded to the launches from Iran.

Paramedics from the Magen David Adom emergency service treated the wounded, updating an earlier toll of two injured.

The military said Home Front Command rescuers were deployed to an impact site in central Israel.

In three statements over 90 minutes, the military said it “identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel”.

It confirmed defensive systems were operating to intercept the threat.

Air raid sirens sounded across central Israel, including Jerusalem and settlements in the occupied West Bank. Blasts were also heard in Tel Aviv following the latest warnings.

Earlier, a Magen David Adom spokesperson told public radio there was damage to several houses in Kafr Qassem. Mayor Haitham Taha said the damage was caused by cluster munitions.

The attacks occurred more than 14 hours after the military last announced incoming missiles from Iran. Central Israel had also come under fire overnight from Lebanon.

Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah claimed a series of attacks from Lebanon targeting military sites. Israeli media reported that six rockets from Lebanon were intercepted.
