Jimmy Kimmel tells UK TV that ‘tyranny is booming’ in the US

US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel says ‘tyranny is booming’ in America in a Christmas message for UK television, referencing government pressure.

LONDON: American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel declared that “tyranny is booming” in the United States during a Christmas message broadcast on British television.

“I can tell you that from a fascism perspective, this has been a really great year. Tyranny is booming over here,” he said in Channel 4’s alternative to the traditional royal broadcast.

Kimmel detailed the suspension of his ABC show in September after he criticised the American right over the killing of activist Charlie Kirk.

He claimed pressure came directly from the administration of President Donald Trump.

“You may have read in your colorful newspapers, my country’s president would like to shut me up, because I don’t adore him in the way he likes to be adored,” Kimmel stated.

“The American government made a threat against me and the company I work for, and all of a sudden, we’re off the air.”

He described the show’s return as a “Christmas miracle” following objections from “millions” of people.

Kimmel warned the UK audience that government silencing of critics is no longer confined to nations like Russia or North Korea.

“Well, that’s what we thought. And now we’ve got King Donnie the eighth calling for executions,” he added.

His programme has since returned “stronger than ever” with his contract extended to mid-2027.

Kimmel concluded by appealing to Britons not to give up on Americans during this political period.

“We’re going through a bit of a wobble right now, but we’ll come around. It may not seem like it, but we love you guys,” he said.
