King Charles calls Hurricane Melissa damage heartbreaking

King Charles III says Hurricane Melissa’s destruction is a heartbreaking reminder to restore nature’s balance as UK provides aid

LONDON: King Charles III described the destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa as heartbreaking while emphasising the urgent need to restore nature’s balance.

The monarch expressed profound sadness alongside Queen Camilla regarding the catastrophic damage across Jamaica and the Caribbean.

He stated this record-breaking storm highlights the increasingly urgent requirement to restore nature’s harmony for affected communities.

The United Kingdom government earlier announced 2.5 million pounds in emergency funding for Caribbean islands impacted by the deadly hurricane.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer characterised the storm’s devastation as truly shocking following its path through Commonwealth nations.

This funding will provide essential supplies including shelter kits, water filters, and blankets to affected regions.

The assistance will also help prevent injuries and disease outbreaks in areas battered by the powerful hurricane.

The Foreign Office established a crisis centre to offer consular support for British nationals throughout the Caribbean.

A Royal Navy ship remains prepared to deliver humanitarian aid to communities devastated by the natural disaster.

Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica as a Category 5 storm with winds approaching 185 miles per hour on Tuesday.

The hurricane devastated extensive areas of Jamaica before impacting Cuba and causing casualties in Haiti.
