Russian attack on Kyiv kills four, injures dozens including children

Massive Russian drone and missile attack hits Kyiv, killing four and wounding dozens while damaging energy facilities and residential buildings.

KYIV: Russia launched a massive drone and missile attack on Ukraine’s capital early Friday, killing four people and injuring dozens.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Russian forces used 430 drones and 18 missiles in one of the largest assaults on Kyiv to date.

The Ukrainian air force reported shooting down most incoming projectiles, but falling debris caused extensive damage across nine districts.

“A wicked attack – as of now, we know of dozens of wounded, including children and a pregnant woman,” Zelenskiy stated on social media.

Residential high-rises, a school, medical facilities and administrative buildings sustained damage throughout the city of approximately 3 million people.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed at least 29 injuries across the city, with nine people requiring hospital treatment including a pregnant woman.

One resident described the terrifying moment her apartment block was struck, saying “so many people were screaming and needed help.”

The attack also damaged Kyiv’s heating system and triggered power cuts in the central Kyiv region, southern Odesa region, and eastern Donetsk region.

Zelenskiy urged allies to strengthen sanctions against Russia, stating “Ukraine is responding to these strikes with long-range strength.”

Ukrainian forces have intensified drone attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, targeting Moscow’s primary funding source for the war.
