China says the WTO panel’s ruling against the US Inflation Reduction Act reflects a basic consensus among members, urging Washington to respect the decision.
BEIJING: A World Trade Organisation panel ruling on a dispute brought by China against the US Inflation Reduction Act reflects a basic consensus among WTO members.
China’s Ministry of Commerce made the statement on Thursday.
Spokesperson He Yadong addressed the matter at a regular press briefing.
He was responding to a statement from the Office of the United States Trade Representative regarding the ruling.
The US side acknowledged it lost the case but called the ruling wrong.
It claimed existing WTO rules cannot address the issue of “overcapacity.”
China has noted the relevant US statement.
The spokesperson stressed that the WTO panel had made an objective and impartial ruling in this case.
The US, as a WTO member, should respect the ruling and abide by the rules.
The spokesperson added this call for compliance with the international body’s decision.
