Malaysian pairs dominate opening day at Malaysia Open 2026

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun secure first-round wins at the Malaysia Open 2026, advancing to the second round.

KUALA LUMPUR: National professional men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani started their Malaysia Open 2026 campaign with a commanding victory.

They defeated Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard 21-15, 21-13 in just 38 minutes at the Axiata Arena.

The win avenged their first-round exit from last year’s tournament in front of an elated home crowd.

Sze Fei credited former national player Koo Kien Keat for their improved preparation. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank BAM and also former national men’s doubles player Koo Kien Keat for helping us with the best possible preparation,” he said.

He also praised his partner Nur Izzuddin for providing strong court coverage during their clinical performance.

The pair now await the winner of the match between England’s Ben Lane-Sean Vendy and fellow Malaysians Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal Nazri.

Their second-round match is scheduled for Thursday.

Meanwhile, another Malaysian pair, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, also advanced with a win over Danish opponents.

They beat world-class duo Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-17, 21-18.

Wei Chong emphasised the need for consistent performance against strong rivals. “You need to look at the day’s performance on court, who is more consistent, that is who will win,” he said.

They will face Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa and Kyohei Yamashita in the next round.
