Malaysian men’s doubles Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun advance to Hylo Open 2025 semifinals after defeating Indonesian opponents in quarter-finals.
KUALA LUMPUR: National men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun have become Malaysia’s sole remaining contenders at the Hylo Open 2025 in Saarbrucken, Germany.
The third seeds secured their semi-final spot with a hard-fought victory over Indonesia’s fifth seeds Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.
Wei Chong and Kai Wun clinched the quarter-final match 26-24, 21-19 in a 44-minute encounter at the Saarlandhalle venue.
Their next opponents will be Indonesian sixth seeds Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.
Gutama and Isfahani prevented an all-Malaysian semi-final by upsetting top seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in three games.
Malaysia’s challenge in the women’s doubles ended with both national pairs exiting the tournament.
Fourth seeds Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing retired from their match after Pei Kee suffered an ankle injury against Turkey’s Bengisu Ercetin and Nazlican Inci.
Sixth seeds Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting also bowed out following a straight-games defeat to Taiwan’s Hsu Yin Hui and Lin Jhih Yun. – Bernama
