Cristiano Ronaldo aims to reach 1,000 career goals, motivated to continue playing until 2027 with Al-Nassr despite his final World Cup in 2026.
BERLIN: Cristiano Ronaldo (pic) has reiterated his ambition to continue playing until he scores his 1,000th career goal.
The 40-year-old Portugal captain raised his tally to 956 with a brace for Saudi club Al-Nassr on Saturday.
Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Sunday, where he was named best player in the Middle East, Ronaldo confirmed the milestone remains his target.
“You know what my goal is. I want to win trophies and I want to reach that number that you all know. I will reach the number for sure, if no injuries,” he said.
Ronaldo has previously stated the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada will be his last international tournament.
His club career is set to continue, however, with his latest two-year deal at Al-Nassr running until 2027.
“It’s hard to continue playing, but I am motivated,” Ronaldo said.
“My passion is high and I want to continue. It doesn’t matter where I play, whether in the Middle East or Europe. I always enjoy playing football and I want to keep going.”
The five-time World Footballer of the Year holds numerous scoring records.
He has a world record 143 goals for Portugal and a record 140 in the Champions League.
Ronaldo also scored a club record 450 goals for Real Madrid and more than 100 each for Manchester United, Juventus and Al-Nassr.
