Michael Carrick arrives at Carrington for his first full day as Man Utd’s new head coach, tasked with salvaging their season and securing Champions League football.
NEW Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick arrived at the club’s Carrington training ground on Wednesday morning.
He was accompanied by assistant coach Jonathan Woodgate ahead of leading his first training session.
The former United midfielder and club captain was appointed on a deal until the end of the season following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.
Carrick believes the squad has the quality to salvage their campaign and secure Champions League qualification.
He takes over with United seventh in the Premier League, just three points off the top four.
“I know what it takes to succeed here,” said Carrick, who won five league titles with the club.
“My focus is now on helping the players to reach the standards that we expect at this incredible club.”
His reign begins with Saturday’s Manchester derby against City at Old Trafford.
A trip to league leaders Arsenal follows the next weekend.
The 44-year-old previously had a three-game unbeaten stint as caretaker boss in 2021.
United dismissed Amorim on January 5 after 14 underwhelming months in charge.
Darren Fletcher oversaw the last two matches, including an FA Cup loss to Brighton.
Carrick will also be assisted by Steve Holland and Jonny Evans.
He was the unanimous choice to lead the team while the club searches for a permanent successor.
Under-21s coach Travis Binnion and goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson complete the new setup.
Director of football Jason Wilcox said Carrick “knows exactly what it takes to win at Manchester United”.
He is ready to lead the group for the remainder of the season as the club builds towards sustained success.
