Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes his squad can achieve ‘special things’ this season despite trailing Premier League leaders Arsenal by 14 points.
LIVERPOOL manager Arne Slot insists his reigning champions can still do “special things” this season ahead of Thursday’s crucial Premier League clash at leaders Arsenal.
Slot’s side travel to the Emirates Stadium sitting fourth, a significant 14 points behind Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.
Their form has improved with a nine-game unbeaten run, though it includes four draws.
“It is nine games unbeaten but we have definitely had two draws too many,” Slot told a pre-match press conference.
The Dutchman, who led Liverpool to the title last season, remains confident in his squad’s potential.
“If everyone’s available and ready, then I think we can do special things,” he said.
Slot pointed to impressive wins this season, including a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at Anfield in August, as proof of their talent.
The team has also secured notable Champions League victories against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, a lack of consistency, including heavy home defeats to Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven, has hampered their league campaign.
“This club has shown so many times that when they don’t have the greatest form in the league, they are still able to win other trophies,” said Slot.
He acknowledged the importance of the match against an Arsenal side chasing their first title in over two decades.
“There’s a lot of importance on this match because we still have a lot to play for in the Premier League,” Slot stated.
The Liverpool boss heaped praise on their upcoming opponents, describing Arsenal as the “complete package”.
“For that reason, in my opinion, they deserve to be on top this season,” he concluded.
