Thomas Frank confident he can win over disgruntled Tottenham fans

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank says he shares fan frustrations after boos but is confident of winning support by improving results and style of play.

LONDON: Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank says he shares the frustrations of supporters after being booed but is confident he can win them over.

Frank was jeered by the travelling fans following Thursday’s goalless draw at his former club Brentford, who also chanted “boring, boring Tottenham”.

The result left Spurs 12th in the Premier League with just two wins from their past 10 league games.

“We’re working very hard,” Frank said. “I understand (the fans’) frustrations. I share them too.”

Appointed in June after the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, Frank has struggled to improve on last season’s 17th-place finish.

Asked if he could be successful without fan support, Frank suggested success would bring the fans back.

“If you are successful the Tottenham fans will be behind you,” he said.

“I’m still pretty sure there’s a lot of fans behind us.”

He acknowledged a misalignment between results and the stylish football Spurs fans expect, citing a period of transition.

“The club, the squad, the injuries, all that, taken into consideration, is part of that,” Frank said.

He pointed to a lengthy injury list including James Maddison and Dominic Solanke as a key reason for the team’s struggles.

“I’m 100 percent sure (what) will happen is that I know we will be able to score a lot of goals,” Frank added.

The manager said he is focused on taking “small steps in the right direction every day”.

“Right now it’s the talk of the town, fair enough,” he said.

“Tomorrow (it) will be forgotten, it will be a new thing and we, just behind the scenes, need to be calm and work on the things very hard and keep improving.”
