National diver Yong Rui Jie is a top medal prospect for the Asian Games, backed by his consistent performances and recent national titles
KUALA LUMPUR: National diver Yong Rui Jie is emerging as a leading medal hope for Malaysia at the upcoming Asian Games.
Technical director Yeoh Ken Nee highlighted the diver’s remarkable consistency as the key reason for this optimism.
“His dives are very consistent in the events he competes in,” Ken Nee told Bernama.
He noted that Rui Jie is among the most talented springboard specialists in the national squad.
The diver’s potential is underscored by his bronze medal at the previous SEA Games.
His breakthrough year continued with a gold in the men’s 3m synchronised springboard alongside Nurqayyum Nazmi Mohamad Nazim.
Rui Jie has maintained his strong form by recently securing a double title at a national test event.
He won the 1m individual event and the 3m synchronised event with partner Nurqayyum in Bukit Jalil.
This steady progression has cemented his status as a prospect for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
“That is why we have high hopes he can deliver strong results at the Asian Games,” Ken Nee said.
