Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun advance to Hylo Open quarter-finals

Malaysian men’s doubles Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun reach Hylo Open quarter-finals, set for tough clash with Indonesian top pair.

KUALA LUMPUR: National men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun have advanced to the quarter-finals of the Hylo Open after defeating Indonesia’s Bagas Maulana-Leo Rolly Carnando.

The world number five pair secured their victory in a hard-fought three-game match, winning 21-9, 17-21, 22-20 in 52 minutes.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun now face a stern test against Indonesia’s top men’s doubles pair Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Shohibul Fikri for a semi-final spot.

The Indonesian pair earlier defeated home favourites Bjarne Geiss-Jones Ralfy Jansen 21-17, 16-21, 21-13 in 55 minutes.

Two national women’s doubles pairs also stormed into the quarter-finals with impressive performances.

Go Pei Kee-Teo Mei Xing advanced after edging Taiwan’s Teng Chun Hun-Yang Chu Yun 9-21, 23-21, 24-22.

Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting earned a straight-game win over Spain’s Nikol Carulla-Carmen Maria Jimenez 25-23, 21-14.

Meanwhile, former world number one men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani saw their campaign end in the second round.

They lost 9-21, 19-21 to Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard. – Bernama
