Deputy PM Ahmad Zahid praises national women’s doubles pair for historic Japan Masters victory.
DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated national women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah on their Japan Masters victory.
The duo claimed the prestigious title by defeating Japan’s Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi 22-20, 21-19 in Sunday’s final in Kumamoto.
Ahmad Zahid hailed their triumph as inspirational and a new milestone for Malaysian badminton, noting they became the first Malaysian pair to win the tournament.
“My congratulations to our national women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, on winning the Kumamoto Masters in Japan just now. Simply outstanding!” he said in a Facebook post.
He highlighted that this marked their third BWF World Tour title, proving Malaysian players can compete at the highest level.
