TikTok Shop mall brands surge 200% with IP protection push

TikTok Shop Malaysia sees 3x brand growth after training 300 MSMEs on IP protection ahead of 11.11 sale.

TIKTOK Shop Malaysia has recorded over three times year-on-year growth in brands participating in its authenticity-guaranteed Mall Program, following intensified intellectual property protection initiatives developed in partnership with government agencies ahead of the 11.11 Mega Sale season.

The e-commerce platform has trained more than 300 local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and 40 enforcement officers this year through collaborative programs with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

Proactive IP Protection Measures

TikTok Shop’s intellectual property safeguards blocked over 7 million products from being listed globally in the second half of 2024, according to the company’s transparency report. These enforcement actions stem from the platform’s Intellectual Property Policy and Anti-Counterfeit and Knockoff Policy, supported by the Intellectual Property Protection Centre (IPPC) portal.

“Through our continuous collaboration with MyIPO and KPDN, we have upskilled more than 300 local MSMEs and 40 enforcement officers this year with the knowledge to leverage TikTok Shop’s Intellectual Property Protection Centre in safeguarding homegrown brands against IP infringements,” said Nur Azre Abdul Aziz, Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships at TikTok Shop Malaysia.

The training initiative has encouraged Malaysian brands including Skinmade, Hetch, Mommyhana, SALYRA Shop, Szindore, and Olive House to join the TikTok Shop Mall platform, which offers a 100% Authenticity Guarantee to consumers.

Government Partnership for Brand Protection

MyIPO director-general Yusnieza Syarmila Yusoff emphasised the importance of public-private collaboration in building a sustainable e-commerce ecosystem that promotes fair competition and responsible business growth.

“The government, alongside trusted platforms such as TikTok Shop, have already laid strong foundations and infrastructures for local MSMEs to protect their intellectual property,” Yusoff stated. “However, we must recognise that this is a shared responsibility, and it is equally important for entrepreneurs to actively play a part in safeguarding their brands by registering for trademarks and actively reporting any suspected intellectual property infringement with cogent evidence through official channels.”

To support local brand protection efforts, MyIPO launched the JenamaLOKAL300 campaign under the theme ‘Lindungi Jenama Lokal, Tembusi Pasaran Global’ (Protect Local Brands, Penetrate Global Markets). The initiative reduces trademark registration fees by RM300, lowering the cost to RM650 for 10 years of protection, making intellectual property registration more accessible for small and medium enterprises.

Strategic Timing for 11.11 Mega Sale

The IP protection enhancement arrives strategically ahead of TikTok Shop’s 11.11 Mega Sale, described as the platform’s most anticipated and biggest sale of the year. The event features special #JomLokal Flash Sale deals from Malaysian homegrown brands, along with unlimited free shipping, stackable vouchers up to 30% off, and Buy 1 Free 1 promotions running through November 11.

“A sustainable e-commerce ecosystem benefits both shoppers and sellers, hence we remain committed to collaborating with the government to uphold the integrity of our platform,” Azre emphasized. “These brands will have a strategic advantage in building trust and driving conversion during 11.11.”

First On-Ground Carnival Experience

TikTok Shop is hosting its inaugural 11.11 Mega Sale Carnival in Malaysia from November 7-9, 2025 at Pavilion Bukit Jalil Exhibition Centre. The three-day public event, open from 10am to 10pm daily, delivers an immersive offline-to-online shoppertainment experience combining live entertainment with real-time e-commerce.

The carnival features over 60 booths and appearances from prominent Malaysian creators and celebrities including Phei Yong, Fizo Omar, Khairul Aming, Alif Satar, and Khai Bahar. A special concert on November 8 at 7pm will showcase Ziana Zain, Amsyar Lee, and other artists performing live on the official @tiktokshop_my TikTok account.

Building Trust in E-Commerce

The Mall Program’s growth reflects increasing emphasis on authenticity in Malaysia’s competitive e-commerce landscape. By providing verified authenticity guarantees and robust IP protection mechanisms, TikTok Shop positions participating brands to compete more effectively during high-traffic sales periods.

Yusnieza highlighted the broader implications: “Through continuous industry engagements and support from platforms like TikTok Shop, we hope to see more Malaysian brands expanding online and growing into household names capable of competing confidently on the global stage.”

The convergence of government support through reduced registration fees, platform-provided IP protection tools, and merchant education programs creates a comprehensive framework for Malaysian brands to establish and defend their market positions in the digital commerce space.

Both players finished tied on 15-under-par 201 after three rounds at Seta Golf Course, with officials cancelling Sunday’s final round due to unplayable conditions. The playoff, held on a shortened par-three 18th, saw Hataoka make par to Araki’s bogey for her first LPGA win since the 2022 LA Open. “It was a unique win for me,” said Hataoka. “It’s unfortunate the tournament got shortened, but winning in front of Japanese fans means so much.”
