RECENTLY, Sunway Pyramid partnered with the Singapore branch of Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong Limited to launch Southeast Asia’s first Play Everything Lounge by PlayStation.

Located on the top floor of the blue zone, the lounge is designed to be the perfect retreat for gamers.

In his welcoming speech Sunway Malls And Theme Park CEO, H.C Chan said that malls have now evolved into more than just a ‘shopping centre’.

He explained: “Today, more than 50% of a mall is occupied by non-shopping experiences.

When I started in the business, non-shopping elements in a mall were only in the single digits.

“In other words, malls have become more than just a centre for shopping; it has evolved into a place of leisure. Beyond shopping.”

The Play Everything Lounge will be opened to all at Sunway Pyramid, Subang Jaya from now to Feb 17, 2019.

Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong Limited (Singapore Branch) Southeast Asia Region head Hidetoshi Takigawa said: “Malaysia is one of the best countries in terms of growth for us.

“In the past couple of years, we have chosen Malaysia to play host to several Playstation events, such as the PlayStation Experience and the launch of God of War in the region.”

He added that the Play Everything Lounge by PlayStation is the accumulation of PlayStation’s confidence in the Malaysian market.

The launch was also attended by Sunway Malls marketing director Loo Hoey Theen, and Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong Limited (Singapore Branch) senior manager Arata Naito.

For gamers, the lounge will feature the latest PlayStation 4 games, and will be the home to various PlayStation-related activities such as gaming tournaments, and community engagement activities, and will also act as a place to preview unreleased game demos such as the highly anticipated Square Enix title: Kingdom Hearts III.

However, for the average mall visitor, the Play Everything Lounge is a perfect hideaway for someone to retreat to while their significant other shops.

For parents, the lounge is a far better option than letting their kids play with display units at electronics stores, and using a bookstore like a library.

Among the significant gaming console makers this generation, the PlayStation 4 has the most prominent presence in Malaysia.

This has been true since the launch of the original PlayStation back in 1994.

The opening of the Play Everything Lounge at Sunway Pyramid is seen as a sign that Sony Interactive Entertainment will continue to grow its presence in the region through Malaysia, despite any lack of real competition.

Details of future activities in Play Everything Lounge will be shared via PlayStation Asia’s Facebook page.
