Another crew member of US Osprey aircraft crashed near Japan found

MOSCOW: The US military has found the body of one of the two remaining crew members of the CV-22 Osprey aircraft that crashed off Japan’s coast in late November, the US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) said, reported Sputnik.

“Divers from the US Navy located and divers from the 320th Special Tactics Squadron recovered the remains of one of two remaining airmen from the CV-22 mishap that occurred on Nov 29, 2023,“ AFSOC said in a statement on Sunday.

The search for the eighth US pilot continues, the statement read.

On Nov 29, the US Air Force said a CV-22B Osprey from Yokota Air Base in Tokyo was involved in an aircraft mishap while performing a routine training mission off the shore of Japan’s Yakushima Island with eight airmen on board.

Last week, all eight crew members were declared dead by the US command, and the US Navy and Marine Corps grounded all Ospreys after a preliminary investigation indicated the mishap may have been caused by a material failure.

The Osprey aircraft has a track record of accidents. In 2016, an MV-22 Osprey aircraft crash-landed in Japan, and in August of this year, the same aircraft crashed in Australia.–Bernama-Sputnik
