Palestine Foreign Ministry welcomes UNESCO adoption of draft resolution on Gaza

RAMALLAH: Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the adoption of a draft resolution submitted by the Arab Group regarding the situation in Palestine and Gaza at UNESCO’s 42nd session of the General Conference.

The ministry in a statement Friday night stressed the importance of the resolution titled “Impact and consequences of the current situation in the Gaza Strip/Palestine in all aspects of UNESCO’s mandate,” reported Palestine News Agency WAFA.

It said the resolution called for an immediate halt to the targeting of civilians, especially children, women, youth, and educational workers. It also urged an end to the attacks on schools, colleges, and universities.

Additionally, the resolution called for the condemnation of the continued killing of journalists and the destruction of media centres, heritage sites, museums, and cultural centers. These actions are clear violations of all human and international conventions and principles of UNESCO.

The Ministry also called upon member states to act urgently to stop the Israeli aggression, allow the entry of aid into the strip, prevent forced displacement of Palestinians, and provide them with protection.–Bernama-WAFA
