Perak JPJ collects over RM30 million in traffic fine discounts

Perak JPJ collected RM30.7 million under a 50% traffic fine discount scheme, with total annual revenue rising to RM239 million.

IPOH: The Perak Road Transport Department (JPJ) collected RM30.7 million in compound fines under a 50% discount scheme that ended on December 30 last year.

Director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan (pic) said the total was an increase from the RM25.8 million collected in 2024.

He revealed that Perak JPJ’s total estimated collection for last year was RM239 million, up from around RM217 million the previous year.

Mohammad Yusoff spoke to reporters after inspecting Operasi Pengarah 2026 on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.

During today’s operation, 226 offence notices were issued for violations including unlicensed driving and expired vehicle licences and insurance.

He said the operation aimed to monitor and ensure public compliance with traffic regulations, particularly among motorcyclists.

Mohammad Yusoff noted that motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users.

Meanwhile, he said JPJ is still using an advocacy approach to tackle the use of helmets not approved by the Malaysian Institute of Standards and Industrial Research (SIRIM).

He stated that the Ministry of Transport has mandated all road vehicle equipment comply with SIRIM specifications.
