36 Kuantan fishermen receive LKIM food basket and cash aid

LKIM provides food baskets and RM7,000 cash aid to 36 Kuantan fishermen, with RM95,150 distributed from its Welfare and Natural Disaster Fund.

KUANTAN: A total of 36 fishermen from Kampung Pantai Pelindung received food basket assistance from the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM).

The aid was channelled through the LKIM Welfare and Natural Disaster Fund to help ease the cost of living during the monsoon season.

LKIM chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said the recipients were low-income fishermen from the B40 group registered with the Kuantan Area Fishermen’s Association.

“This assistance involves daily food supplies such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, flour, soy sauce, sardine, coffee and tea,” he said at the Rahmah Mesra MADANI programme.

He added that five fishermen from Balok received RM7,000 in cash aid after floods and high tides capsized their boats last November.

The total assistance distributed from the LKIM Welfare and Natural Disaster Fund for 2025 is RM95,150, benefiting 51 recipients.

Muhammad Faiz also announced an additional RM50,000 allocation to upgrade the fishermen’s shed in Kampung Beserah in 2026.

A mock cheque for RM50,000 was handed over for the recently built fishermen’s shed in Kampung Pantai Pelindung.

Aid recipient Azan Tuan Mamat, 60, expressed gratitude for the cash assistance to replace his sunken boat.

“Alhamdulillah, this assistance is very helpful and helps to ease the burden, especially to cover family expenses,” he said.

He said major floods in Balok last November caused extensive damage to engines, nets and equipment, with losses estimated between RM5,000 and RM6,000.
