Flood situation worsens in Sarawak with 41 relief centres now open

The number of flood evacuees in Sarawak rises to 3,890 as 41 relief centres are opened across multiple divisions, including Kuching and Serian

KUCHING: The flood situation in Sarawak has continued to deteriorate, with 41 temporary relief centres now operational across the state.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) reported the centres are located in the Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri divisions.

They are currently accommodating 3,890 evacuees from 1,175 families.

This marks an increase from the previous evening, when 40 centres housed 3,546 people from 1,030 families.

The state JPBN said several centres recorded a rise in evacuee numbers, particularly in the Kuching division.

The Serian district has been identified as a disaster red zone, involving the Ranchan relief centre and the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Chung Hua Batu 29 multipurpose hall.

An increasing trend was also recorded in the Sibu and Bintulu divisions.

This involves the Bukit Arip relief centre and the Dewan Suarah Bintulu, respectively.
