KL Wellness City hosts industry gathering focusing on regulation, collaboration in traditional medicine
MALAYSIA’s Traditional and Complementary Medicine sector gathered to strengthen professional standards and regulatory compliance at the T&CM Practitioners Day 2026, held at KL Wellness City in Bukit Jalil.
The half-day event on January 8 brought together practitioners, regulators, and industry leaders to advance governance frameworks, facilitate knowledge exchange, and promote collaborative initiatives within the nation’s T&CM ecosystem.
Organized by KL Wellness City in alignment with the Ministry of Health Malaysia’s commitment to promoting safe, quality, and responsible traditional and complementary medicine practices, the programme served as an official platform for professional engagement and sectoral dialogue.
Leadership Perspectives
Dato’ Sri Dr. Vincent Tiew, Executive Director of KL Wellness City, opened proceedings by acknowledging the T&CM industry’s ongoing contributions to Malaysia’s healthcare landscape.
He emphasised the gathering’s role as a collaborative platform for strengthening professional standards, highlighting the shared responsibility of practitioners, healthcare institutions, and regulatory bodies in advancing the sector’s credibility and sustainable growth.
The keynote address was delivered by Dato’ Indera Dr. Nor Azimi Yunus, Deputy Director General of Health (Medical) at the Ministry of Health, who officially launched T&CM Practitioners Day 2026.
Dr. Nor Azimi recognized the contributions of practitioners and industry stakeholders to the national healthcare ecosystem, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring T&CM practices remain safe, credible, and well-regulated.
She underscored the importance of integrating traditional and complementary medicine with national healthcare policies to support a sustainable and cohesive healthcare system.
Regulatory Framework Updates
A central component of the programme featured a Ministry of Health briefing session titled “Regulation of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Services in Malaysia,” presented by Dr. Tajul Iqmal bin Tajul Arus, Head of the Inspectorate and Enforcement Section within the T&CM Division.
The session provided participants with current information on the regulatory framework, compliance requirements, and enforcement mechanisms governing T&CM services nationwide, ensuring practitioners remain informed of their professional obligations.
Bridging Traditional and Modern Practices
The programme continued with a forum exploring the theme “Bridging Traditional Wisdom with Modern Recovery,” featuring insights from respected leaders and policymakers.

- Dr. Nor Adila Mohd Noor, Acting Vice President of Gabungan Pertubuhan Pengamal Perubatan Tradisional Melayu Malaysia (GAPERA)
- Dr. Dyanan Puvanandran, Secretary of the T&CM Council, Ministry of Health
- Dr. Thayala Sridhar a/l Pichaikaren from Pertubuhan Perubatan Tradisional India Malaysia (PEPTIM)
The panel shared perspectives on integrating traditional knowledge systems with contemporary healthcare practices, addressing how T&CM can complement modern medical approaches while maintaining cultural authenticity and therapeutic effectiveness.
